Cyber Security
Cyber security that's certified, managed, and local
Cyber attacks on small and mid-sized businesses aren't rare events any more — they're the day-to-day background noise of running a company. Phishing emails, compromised passwords, ransomware, invoice fraud: most of it is automated, and it doesn't care whether you're a ten-person accountancy firm in Hertford or a fifty-seat office in North London. The stakes run highest where the data is most sensitive, which is why law firms and accountants make up a good share of the businesses we protect.
Pebble IT provides fully managed cyber security for businesses across Hertfordshire, Essex and London, run from our office in Hoddesdon. We're not a reseller bolting on someone else's dashboard — we hold Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus ourselves, we've been through the audits, and we use the same layered protection for our clients that we use to pass them. It's the same stack we use to protect recruitment agencies sitting on thousands of candidate records.
Every Pebble IT support plan includes enterprise-grade cyber security as standard. There's no "security tier" upsell — protection is the baseline.
Certified to the standard we help you reach
Anyone can claim to take security seriously. Certification is how you prove it.
Cyber Essentials is the UK government-backed scheme that verifies your business has the five core technical controls in place: firewalls, secure configuration, access control, malware protection, and security updates. Cyber Essentials Plus goes further — an independent assessor audits and tests your systems hands-on rather than taking your word for it.
Pebble IT holds both certifications. That matters for two reasons. First, your supply chain is asking: larger clients, public sector contracts and insurers increasingly require Cyber Essentials from their suppliers — and if you've been asked for it, we know exactly what's involved, because we've done it ourselves. Second, it demonstrably reduces risk: organisations with Cyber Essentials controls in place report 92% fewer cyber insurance claims than those without (NCSC), and UK organisations under £20m turnover that certify their whole organisation get automatic cyber liability insurance included.
We take our clients through certification too — from gap analysis and remediation to the assessment itself. For most of our managed clients, the technical controls are already in place before we start, because they're simply how we run your IT day to day. Ask us about Cyber Essentials certification. Multi-layered protection, fully managed
Managed Detection & Response (MDR) — your environment is monitored 24/7 by a security operations capability that investigates and responds to threats in real time, not a dashboard you're left to watch yourself.
Identity Threat Detection & Response (ITDR) — most modern breaches start with a stolen login, not a virus. We monitor your Microsoft 365 identities for suspicious sign-ins and shut compromised accounts down fast.
Email security — enterprise-level filtering that stops phishing, malware and impersonation attempts before they reach your users, continuously tuned and managed by us.
Endpoint protection — world-class endpoint security on every device, included in all our IT plans and fully managed, with threats detected automatically and alerts raised immediately.
Firewall management — properly configured, monitored and patched firewalls at the network edge: one of the five Cyber Essentials controls, done the way the assessors expect to see it.
User awareness training — your team is the first line of defence. Ongoing phishing simulation and short, practical training that changes behaviour without lecturing anyone.
What's actually at stake
The point of cyber security isn't paranoia — it's continuity. For a typical SME, the real costs of an incident are days of downtime, locked files, fraudulent payments, regulatory exposure under UK GDPR, and the awkward conversation with clients about their data. All of it is largely preventable with the layered basics done properly and monitored continuously.
That's why we build security into every IT plan rather than selling it separately: the businesses that get hurt are almost never the ones with the controls in place. They're the ones who assumed they were too small to be a target.
Detection buys you time. Recovery is what actually gets you trading again, so every plan includes backup and disaster recovery that is verified rather than assumed.
Getting protected: how it works
Book a call — a short conversation about your business, your current setup, and anything specific you're worried about (or being asked for by clients and insurers).
Security review — we assess your environment against the Cyber Essentials controls and identify the gaps.
Protection deployed — MDR, email security, endpoint protection and monitoring rolled out with minimal disruption; most of it is invisible to your team.
Ongoing management — 24/7 monitoring, monthly patching, awareness training, and — if you want it — the path to your own Cyber Essentials certification.
Cyber security for your sector
Different industries face different threats — and different compliance demands. We provide sector-specific cyber security for accountants, law firms, estate agents, charities and non-profits, and professional services firms.
Local cyber security support across Hertfordshire, Essex and London
We're based in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, and support businesses across Hertfordshire — Hertford, Ware, Welwyn Garden City, St Albans, Watford, Stevenage and beyond — as well as Essex and North and Central London. Remote monitoring and response is 24/7 wherever you are; when hands-on help is needed, we're close enough to be on site quickly.
What does managed cyber security cost?
Core cyber security — endpoint protection, email security, and 24/7 monitoring — is included in all Pebble IT support plans at no extra charge. If you'd like your business Cyber Essentials certified, we quote that separately once we've seen your setup — the work involved depends on how close you already are to the standard. Book a call and we'll give you a straight answer.
Security shouldn't be a paid upgrade. Here's why (read our blog): what IT support should cost, and what should always be included.
